Driving up to Montserrat
Montserrat monastery is about 60 km from Barcelona. The route leaves the city on the A-2 or B-23 towards Martorell, continues on the C-55 to Monistrol de Montserrat and finishes on the mountain road that climbs to the monastery. It takes approximately 55-70 minutes depending on traffic and the time you leave Barcelona.
With a private vehicle you reach the monastery area without combining train, rack railway or cable car, and without looking for parking. Your driver drops you near the entrance to the site and waits until the agreed time. It is the most comfortable way to make the trip with children, older relatives or limited time.

What to see at the monastery and on the mountain
The basilica, with the statue of the Virgin of Montserrat (known as La Moreneta), is the main visit. The Escolania, one of the oldest boys' choirs in Europe, sings in the basilica at set times that are worth checking before your visit. There is also the Museum of Montserrat, with artworks from several periods.
If you have more time, the Sant Joan and Santa Cova funiculars lead to paths with views over the mountain and the Llobregat valley. To see the monastery and take a short walk, allow about 3-4 hours on site, and if you want to hike further, book more hours of service.

Montserrat and the Penedès in one day
A popular combination is Montserrat in the morning and the Penedès in the afternoon, about 40-45 minutes away, to visit a cava cellar in Sant Sadurní d'Anoia or a winery around Vilafranca, where Autolux has its offices. Your driver takes you from one place to the next and back to your hotel.
