Transport for congresses and trade fairs in Barcelona: a guide for companies

To organise transport for a congress or trade fair in Barcelona, start with the venue (Fira Gran Via, Fira Montjuïc or the CCIB), how many people need to move and at what times. That tells you whether to use minivan shuttles for groups, private cars for executives, or both, with invoicing by cost centre.

Barcelona hosts large congresses and trade fairs every year, and they fill hotels and roads. Planning transport properly avoids delays at the entrance on day one and long waits when the halls close. If your team is flying in from abroad, it also removes one unknown from the trip.

The three main venues

Fira Gran Via

Located in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, between Barcelona and the airport. The largest fairs take place here, including Mobile World Congress. It is about 10 km from the airport (approx. 15-20 minutes) and approx. 20-25 minutes from central Barcelona, depending on traffic.

Fira Montjuïc

Next to Plaça d'Espanya, at the foot of Montjuïc hill. It hosts mid-sized fairs and shows. It is about 15 km from the airport, approx. 20-25 minutes depending on traffic.

CCIB

The Barcelona International Convention Centre is in the Diagonal Mar and Fòrum area, close to the sea. It is a common venue for medical and scientific congresses. It is about 20 km from the airport, approx. 25-35 minutes depending on traffic.

Shuttles or private cars

There is no single answer: most companies combine both.

Minivan shuttles

• Suited to teams staying at the same hotel.
• Loops between the hotel and the venue at set times.

Private cars

• For executives, speakers and invited clients.
• Flexible timings and direct journeys.
• Business (Mercedes E-Class, Audi A6), Top (long wheelbase Mercedes S-Class) or Electric (Tesla Model S) categories.

Car at your disposal

When someone has meetings in several parts of the city during the congress, our hourly chauffeur service is often the most practical choice: the driver stays with them and waits between appointments.

Peak times to plan for

• Airport arrivals the day before opening, especially in the afternoon and evening.
• Venue access on the first morning, usually between 8:00 and 10:00.
• Leaving the venue at the end of the day, when thousands of people head out at once.
• Dinners and events in the evening, often at restaurants or venues around the city.
• Airport departures on the last day.

During the biggest fairs, traffic around the venue and the airport gets heavy. Booking early and adjusting pickup times makes a real difference.
